Here's How to Earn Your Hours!
As we all know, UPA requires 60 volunteer hours per year from each
household (in addition to the student requirement of 30 service
hours). How will you accumulate that many hours? The easiest and
most fun way is to become active in PTSO. If you attend the monthly
PTSO general meeting, that time counts, and there are many volunteer
jobs listed on our website. Most of them are fairly easy, and many
can be completed even if you can't take time off from work.
You can go to the PTSO website by going to www.upasv.org and clicking
on PTSO website.
PTSO has an opening for the office of Secretary. That mainly entails
taking minutes at meetings. Other committees and subcommittees need
volunteers, and this is the way most parents will earn their 60 hours.
Please take a look at the openings and come to the next PTSO meeting
and start participating! UPA absolutely depends upon support from
parents.
By the way, if you have not yet joined PTSO this school year, please
fill out a membership form and have your student drop it off at the
UPA office. Why join?
- Membership dues help purchase insurance for some activities
- Dues also cover minor administrative expenses
- Occasionally PTSO enables kids to participate in an activity by helping pay the expense, if necessary.
- PTSO is a thrifty organization in comparison to other similar national organizations with higher overhead.
- Membership dues are as low as $10/year.
- Participating in PTSO is the easiest way to accumulate your 60
hours of volunteer time that you agreed to when you registered your
child.
